Darin J. Messina, Ph.D.

Dr. Darin J. Messina serves as Senior Vice President of Aesthetics R&D, leads the R&D organization responsible for the development of products in facial aesthetics (including neurotoxins & soft tissue fillers), body contouring, plastic surgery & regenerative medicine, and topical skincare.

Dr. Messina joined Allergan in 2010 and has held positions of increasing responsibility developing medical devices and biologics. In his previous role at Allergan/AbbVie, Dr. Messina was Vice President, Head of Aesthetic Device R&D and had significant involvement in the acquisition and integration of Elastagen, LifeCell and Luminera, three companies with highly differentiated technology platforms.

Prior to joining Allergan, Dr. Messina held roles at Johnson & Johnson, as part of Ethicon, Johnson & Johnson Internal Ventures, and Centocor. He has over 75 issued or pending patent applications related to stem cells, regenerative biomaterials, and aesthetic medicine.

Dr. Messina earned his Ph.D. in neuroscience from the University of Utah School of Medicine and undergraduate degrees from Northwestern University
