Development programs

If you will soon be graduating with an undergraduate or advanced degree, consider an AbbVie development program. Our development programs were created to give high-performing individuals the opportunity to broaden their work experience in a dynamic environment.

Each formal development program lasts two to four years, depending on the discipline. All AbbVie development program members participate in an 8-month leadership program at the start of their development program journeys to accelerate their onboarding and career growth, which in turn creates patterns for long-term success at AbbVie.

The development programs are designed to enhance your leadership capabilities, expand your functional skill set and help pave the way to your ultimate career goals. Your functional program manager, assignment manager and mentor will help you acclimate to our unique culture of innovation and discovery. Working collaboratively, you will help make goal-oriented decisions while you perform challenging and rewarding work alongside industry pioneers.

Business Technology Solutions Development Program

The Business Technology Solutions Development Program (BTSDP) is a global two-year rotational leadership development program.  Over the course of the three 8 month diverse and challenging rotations, the BTSDP member will develop their technology and business problem solving skills while gaining a deeper understanding of the biopharmaceutical industry to create value for AbbVie’s patients.

The program provides aspiring Business Technology Solutions professionals a range of unique experiences while addressing the business needs of today to help shape them into future business leaders of tomorrow. Rotational experiences can align to a more business facing or technical rotational path opportunities depending on business need and area of interest for the BTSDP. BTS core rotational areas include Commercial, Enterprise, Information Research, Infrastructure, Manufacturing Operations, Security and Architecture.

Global Finance Development Program

AbbVie’s Financial Development Program (FDP) consists of four rotations over two years to prepare you for financial management roles. The roles are crafted to help you develop exceptional functional and leadership traits by working on a wide range of projects, while providing exposure to different leaders in the company.

These finance experiences will develop you and put you on the fast track to future finance leadership opportunities at AbbVie. The rotations are carried out in a variety of functional areas such as: Commercial, Operations, R&D, and Corporate. You will also get experience by working cross functionally in a matrix environment, building your business acumen, and participating in key training sessions.  Additionally, throughout the course of the FDP, each FDP will gain exposure in Cost Accounting through required Cost Accounting training modules and skill building opportunities.

Commercial Leadership Program

The Commercial Leader Program (CLP) helps develop high-potential MBA talent for future commercial and general management positions at AbbVie. The Commercial Leadership Program (CLP) consists of two 18-month rotations in both Marketing and Market Access and one 12-month rotation in Sales.

By rotating through a variety of commercial roles across AbbVie, CLP addresses the business needs of today while helping to grow experienced, well-rounded management talent for tomorrow.

Global Market Access Program

Market Access is a growing capability that is critical to AbbVie’s ongoing success. Our Global Market Access Development Program (GMADP) helps develop high-potential talent for future Global Market Access and Pricing management positions at AbbVie.

The Global Market Access Program consists of three, 12-month rotations. By rotating through a variety of roles across market access, the Market Access Development Program addresses the business needs of today while helping to grow experienced, well-rounded management talent for tomorrow. Over the three years, you may work in rotations in such fields: Market Access Planning and Execution, Strategic Pricing, Affiliate or Area Market Access and Pricing, or Health Economic and Health Technology Assessment.

Marketing Associate Program

The Marketing Associate Program (MAP) provides differentiated rotational assignments paired with intentional leadership development and learning experiences. In this program, you will have intensive learning experiences that strengthen your leadership capabilities in the Marketing realm.

The Marketing Associate Program (MAP) consists of three, 12-month rotations in the following focus areas: Marketing, Commercial Analytics and Operations, and Sales.

Clinical Trial Operations Development Program

The Clinical Trial Operations Development Program (CTODP) provides differentiated rotational assignments paired with intentional leadership development and learning experiences. In this program, you will have intensive learning experiences that strengthen your leadership capabilities in the Clinical Trial Operations realm.

The Clinical Trial Operations Development Program (CTODP) is a two-year program and consists of three 8-month assignments. All Clinical Trial Operations development program members are required to complete one rotation in Data Sciences, one rotation in Clinical Study Leadership (CSL), and then one elective rotation. All CTODP members go through a Mock Trial experience within their first year in the program and present out to leadership.

Global Operations Development Program

The Operations Development Program (ODP) is an accelerated Early Career Development Program designed to serve the enterprise business needs by building a talent pipeline for the critical capabilities required to achieve AbbVie’s strategic imperatives today and in the future. This program develops world-class early career engineers and scientists through challenging and rewarding rotational assignments across six Operations functions - providing opportunities to enhance your leadership capabilities, expand your functional skill set, and work alongside top industry pioneers. Your functional program manager, assignment manager and mentor will help you acclimate to our unique culture of innovation and discovery. Upon completion of our program, you will have the tools and resources to make an informed decision on a career path that is right for you.

The Operations Development Program (ODP) is a three-year program and consists of three 12-month rotations. The core areas of the program are Internal Manufacturing & Engineering (IME), Science & Technology (S&T), Quality Assurance (QA) and Central Services. Members also have the opportunity to choose one elective from the following areas: Supply Chain/Aesthetics Operations, Purchasing and Supplier Management, and External Contract Manufacturing.

Human Resources Leadership Development Program

In Our Human Resources Leadership Development Program, members will have an opportunity to leverage best-in-class HR practices to continually construct, deliver and support programs that establish AbbVie as an employer of choice.

To develop foundational experience with AbbVie HRLDP, three 12-month functional rotations will be established so members explore multiple areas of interest while further developing their general professional skillset. Key functional areas include Business Human Resources, Talent (Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, Executive Development, Culture, Organizational Effectiveness), and HR Centers of Excellence (Total Rewards, Executive Compensation, Talent Deployment, Employee Relations, and EED&I).

AbbVie offers two Intern Programs both providing impact to AbbVie's business while also providing students meaningful industry experience, networking and development opportunities: the AbbVie Intern Program and Experiential Intern Program.

 

The AbbVie Intern Program Overview

This summer intern program was established as a talent pipeline for AbbVie’s Development Programs. These Development Programs align to specific functions within the business: Operations, Finance, Business Technology Solutions, Clinical Trial Operations, Commercial, Market Access, Marketing Associate, Human Resources and Allergan Aesthetics. Interns are hired to work on assignments in their function over the summer and based on performance may be offered a full-time position for a Development Program.

As an Experiential Intern, you will do meaningful work that has a real impact on our business and patients worldwide.  These assignments are based on business need and may change annually.

The AbbVie EXCEL Externship Overview

The AbbVie Externship for Cultivating Emerging Leaders (EXCEL) Program is a three-day experience for sophomore students to experience diverse business areas, network with our teams and leaders, engage in professional development events and have an opportunity to interview for an AbbVie Internship Program for the following summer! Students will join us at AbbVie's Headquarters in Lake County, IL during late summer and AbbVie will provide travel and accommodations to eligible students.
