We use external partnerships and standards bodies to increase our accountability, help guide our environmental actions and drive collective action that no one company could achieve on its own. Below are a few examples.
Science Based Targets initiative
In 2021, we committed to join the Science Based Targets initiative along with other ambitious corporate leaders committing to carbon emission targets aligned to the Paris Climate Agreement. In March 2023, the SBTI validated that the corporate greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets we submitted were in conformance with the SBTi criteria and recommendations.
S&P Global Trust
In 2020, we partnered with S&P Global Trust to perform a climate risk assessment across 100 critical global locations including all manufacturing, R&D, and warehouse locations, along with select global offices. Based on the findings of the assessment, we rolled out updates to physical features of sites around the world including the following:
- We’ve continued to expand our use of electric and hybrid vehicles in our fleet and have invested in electric vehicle charging stations at our facilities. At the end of 2022, we had over 3,000 electric and hybrid vehicles across the globe.
- In 2022, we installed a photovoltaic solar system at our Liege, Belgium site. A system able to provide up to one third of the site's annual electricity needs reducing greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 120 metric tons.
- In 2022, we reduced natural gas and purchased electricity and utilities largely attributed to a discontinuation of a legacy product’s production in our North Chicago facility and associated boiler use reduction.
- We installed electrical generators and/or dual fuel boilers at our Ludwigshafen, Sligo, Westport, Clonshaugh and Pringy manufacturing sites to address and improve the overall resiliency of the site utilities.
