We are committed to bringing our resources and expertise to students today—so they are prepared to succeed tomorrow.

Addressing Educational Challenges

Throughout the world, AbbVie employees volunteer time to transform education. In the United States, we’re helping address education challenges for children, including supporting a new math curriculum. In Tokyo, Japan, volunteers helped young students gain hands-on insight into the scientific discovery process. And in Budapest, Hungary, AbbVie volunteers renovated a local secondary school and provided health lectures. Our work across the globe has helped provide improvements for local schools and address children’s educational needs.

One of our Corporate Responsibility priorities is to narrow the gap in science and literacy. See how we’re partnering with a number of organizations to give back to our communities.

Supporting Students in Higher Education

We support university students throughout the world by offering the opportunity to work as interns in AbbVie, providing exposure to careers in scientific research and business. AbbVie offers research-focused summer internships to US college students to increase awareness and passion for treatment of neglected diseases through experience in our drug discovery laboratory. The AbbVie Foundation sponsors the Collegiate Inventors Competition. We also provide eligible children of AbbVie employees with scholarships through the National Merit Scholarship program.

The AbbVie Foundation’s Science Engineering Exploration Knowledge (SEEK) initiative is a global science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education program, delivered by AbbVie volunteers, that aims to increase student interest in STEM careers. The program has been delivered in Ireland, Japan, Puerto Rico and the United States. The program has been delivered in 12 countries and 42 U.S. cities. The program is offered in English, Spanish, French, Chinese, Bulgarian, German, Portuguese, Japanese and Vietnamese.

Educating a New Generation of Leaders

In Chittagong, Bangladesh, we partner with the Asian University for Women to educate a new generation of leaders in Asia. The AbbVie Foundation provides scholarships for students to attend the university, while AbbVie scientists and physicians provide weekly video lectures to students on topics ranging from early molecular modeling to drugs for neglected diseases.

Providing Support Today to Transform the Future

Students living with chronic disease face significant obstacles while they pursue higher education. Scholarships supported by AbbVie aim to empower students in the United States to achieve their educational goals.

The AbbVie Immunology Scholarship provides financial support to exceptional students living with Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, uveitis, hidradenitis suppurativa and psoriasis. Scholars are chosen based on academic excellence, community involvement, written response to an essay question and ability to serve as a positive role model for their communities.

The AbbVie CF Scholarship acknowledges the achievements of students living with cystic fibrosis (CF). Recipients are selected based on criteria including academic record and extracurricular activities, essay and creative presentation. Since its inception 24 years ago the scholarship program has awarded more than $2.6 million in scholarships to young adults with CF as they pursue goals of higher education.
