Helping Children and Families Thrive

North Chicago Community Partners (NCCP) cares about the health of children in North Chicago Community Unit School District 187 (Illinois, United States). NCCP is a nonprofit dedicated to helping students find educational success, and it understands that health-related factors such as hunger and nutrition can affect children’s ability to get all they can out of school.

Opening Doors for All

In April 2015, NCCP hosted its annual spring Health and Wellness Open House at five of the district’s schools. Through its partnership with the AbbVie Foundation and with the help of many volunteers, NCCP provided valuable health resources in a fun way for all to enjoy.

Learning About Health the Fun Way

Activities and resources at the April Open House included learning about growing food at home, making healthy snacks and glucose and blood sugar screenings.

The event even featured a shopping experience, with a “grocery store” created by NCCP. Stocked with items from the Northern Illinois Food Bank, the store provided much needed food to families who attended the event.

By reaching more than 1,200 children and adults at the Open House, representing 450 families, NCCP is doing its part to help children grow up healthy, strong and fulfilled.
