SUPPORT PATIENTS

We support the patient journey through the continuum of care to improve health outcomes. By listening and responding to our patients' needs, we're able to develop better products and solutions that help people improve their lives and their health.

‘I am deeply grateful for the assistance. I can now actually get back to being able to work around the house, and am better able to care for my 89 year-old mother. Thank you from the bottom of my heart; well, also from the top and sides of a grateful heart, too.’ – 2013 patient’s letter to the Patient Assistance Foundation

Innovative Patient Programs
+

As part of our patient-first approach, AbbVie is passionate about developing solutions to meet patient needs around the world.

  • Pharmacy Solutions, an AbbVie pharmacy in the U.S., strives to improve patient treatment outcomes by working with healthcare providers, patients and payers to improve health via access to medications, pharmacy services and care management solutions. Pharmacy Solutions is the first biopharmaceutical company-owned specialty pharmacy to receive accreditation status by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) for the services of Specialty Pharmacy and Durable Medical Equipment Service (DMEPOS) in 2013.
  • Talking Training Pen for Injectable Medicine is our first-of-its kind device in the self-injectable biologic market. It helps give patients confidence with self-injections of biologics.
  • Parkinson’s Treatment: Through a partnership with the Karolinska Institute of Sweden, we piloted a program that enabled patients with Parkinson's disease to access the 10-14-day dosing of at-home treatment using telemedicine care, rather than using a hospital delivery. This change helped improve adherence and patient outcomes while also reducing hospitalization and health care costs.

AbbVie Patient Assistance Foundation
+

AbbVie supports the AbbVie Patient Assistance Foundation, which provides eligible patients with AbbVie medications at no cost. In 2012, the Foundation provided free medications valued at $644 million to more than 161,000 patients in the United States.

HIV Waiting List Patient Assistance
+

Since 2010, AbbVie has joined with nonprofit partners to help deliver free AbbVie HIV medications to patients on waiting lists in U.S. states. Through these partners, AbbVie provides no-cost AbbVie HIV medications for patients eligible for the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) but who, due to state funding cuts, were placed on waiting lists until more funds became available. AbbVie helped develop this program after a call for help from the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors, with other manufacturers of HIV medications since joining the program. AbbVie is currently partnering with HarborPath, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping the uninsured living with HIV/AIDS gain access to free medications offered by Patient Assistance Programs (PAPs).

Partnership for Prescription Assistance (PPA)
+

With the support of AbbVie and other health care leaders, the PPA has helped connect more than eight million people with patient assistance programs that can help them improve their lives. The numbers, and the results, are hard to ignore. More than 2,500 medicines and nearly 500 programs. Information on almost 10,000 free health care clinics. And partnerships with more than 1,300 national and local organizations, all designed to help make an impact on patients' lives.
