Recent Community Projects
+

AbbVie supports employee volunteering, and a few recent examples of community projects include:

  • 95% of U.S. and Puerto Rico-based employees participated in the 2013 annual Employee Giving Campaign. Employees’ donations, combined with the AbbVie Foundation match, provided more than $4 million to local communities and charities. One employee said, “I give knowing that I am making a positive difference through the Employee Giving Campaign.”
  • AbbVie Ireland is partnering with Young Social Innovators to develop national school workshops on innovation and science.
  • Hundreds of employees in Lake County, Illinois partnered with Direct Relief International to assemble emergency care packages for those displaced from their homes due to natural disasters.
  • Since 2011, AbbVie China has supported a summer camp for children with HIV/AIDS, with employees volunteering at “Let Love Shine” camp.
  • Employees in Brazil volunteered to lead science experiments through the AbbVie Foundation’s support of ‘Science + You’ traveling exhibit.

Animal Welfare Volunteering
+

AbbVie is committed to animal welfare, and actively practices the 3Rs of animal research: replacement, reduction and refinement. As part of the refinement effort, AbbVie has made some former research dogs available for adoption for the past 15 years through dog adoption agencies. AbbVie is highly committed to providing the best care for our animals, including adopting eligible dogs.

To support this program, AbbVie’s Dog Socialization/Play Enrichment program has engaged more than 110 employees as volunteers to enhance compliance with the USDA requirement to ensure more contact with humans through play and other activities. Volunteers socialize dogs, which especially help those that are being adopted out to help ease their transition. Employees undergo training to understand their role and proper handling of dogs, in addition to better understand the use of animals in research.
